American clarinettist Brian McCurdy studied with Stephen Johnston at Shendandoah Conservatory of Music in Winchester, VA (USA), where he earned his Concert Diploma (bachelor's degree).
He was a semi-finalist in the 1996 Concert Artist Guild's Chamber Music Competition. In 1997, he joined the United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. Parallel to his band activities he studied at the University of Maryland, where he received a Master's degree in clarinet performance. He began pursuing a doctorate degree at the Catholic University of America. Brian McCurdy studied with clarinettists Paul Cigan and Loren Kitt, who are both members of the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington, D.C. In addition, he has begun working as a lecturer at Shenandoah University.
He is also a member of the Air Force Clarinet Quartet which specialise primarily in contemporary music. During his visits to Germany (Berlin) he has often performed with soprano Verena Rein.
